Brian Sickora

Executive Director and General Director of UNC-TV

Director since 2012.  Brian Sickora is the executive director and general manager of UNC-TV, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.  With four full-time digital program channels–flagship UNC-TV (PBS & More), UNC-EX (the Explorer Channel), Rootle (UNC-TV's Kids Channel), and the North Carolina Channel (Stories with a Local Accent)–UNC-TV's 12 stations make up North Carolina's statewide public media service, made possible through a unique partnership of public investment and private support.

As executive director and general manager since July 2016, Mr. Sickora is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, strategic direction, and success of the organization.  He oversees a $27 million budget and approximately 200 permanent, temporary, and contract employees statewide.  He also provides leadership and direction in the development and funding of programs and activities and compliance with all rules and regulations governing public broadcasting entities.

Mr. Sickora served previously as president and chief executive officer of WSKG Public Media in Binghamton, New York.  During his nine-year tenure at WSKG, he launched a number of local programming initiatives and helped establish WSKG as a national model for partnership-focused enterprises.  Prior to joining WSKG, Mr. Sickora spent four years with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in Washington, D.C., where he served as vice president for system development and station grants administration.  Earlier in his career, he served as president and chief executive officer of Florida-based Infinite Outsource, Inc., the first "outsourced" development service model in public broadcasting; executive vice president for operations and administration at Oregon Public Broadcasting; director of budget and finance for The Pennsylvania State University's College of Outreach and Cooperative Extension; and finance director for Penn State Public Broadcasting.  Prior to his public broadcasting career, Mr. Sickora worked in finance, strategic planning, and business development roles in the defense industry at HRB-Systems, a division of Raytheon Corporation, for ten years.

He and his wife Kate, a former National Public Radio employee, reside in Chapel Hill with their young triplets–George, Marlene, and Virginia–and their dog Larry.

Mr. Sickora is vice chair of the PBS Finance Committee and serves on the Executive, Audit, and Station Services committees and the Member Services Access Working Group.
